Who is it for? The rider interested in a bike that offers the features of the Moots Routt, but who wants a bike focused more towards stability and touring potential rather than sport riding.
Noteworthy: If you want one bike to tour on and that still has the potential to be ridden briskly on adventures most anywhere, the Moots Routt 45 fits the bill better than just about anything on the market.
Bottom Line: “45” = maximum tire width of a huge 45mm. As with all Moots, the Routt 45 is made with high grade titanium and designed for the long haul. Possessing the same 44mm tapered steerer fork as the Routt, the Routt 45 offers great lateral stiffness. Whether it is weighted down with bags and racks or if has narrow tires on it and is carving up a mountain at speed, the Routt 45 has the rigidity to handle the situation. However, it is important to distinguish that because the Routt 45 has longer chainstays (designed to accept tires up to 45mm) it takes more time than the Moots Routt to make it around a corner. So, if you want your endurance/gravel road capable bike to be more sport oriented, get the standard Moots Routt. On the other hand, if you want to be able to install tires over 38mm and want as stable and smooth a platform as Moots offers, the Routt 45 should be your choice.
