Fit Werx Peabody Now Offers Chain Waxing Services

Fit Werx Peabody is now offering chain waxing services with a variety of brands including Silca, Ceramicspeed UFO Ultra Endurance Wax & Pyramid Cycle Design Velo Cire Solid & Paste. Each application is unique to the clients needs.

The process:

– Complete drive train clean in ultrasonic cleaning tank. Parts that are electronic (front and rear derailleurs) are cleaned by hand with a gentle biodegradable cleaner. All parts are then rinsed in fresh water and dried before reinstalling.

– New chains are stripped of their original lubricant and prepared for complete wax immersion

– After the chain goes through the wax immersion process, it is dried, measured and installed onto the drivetrain. We then proceed with vigorous revolutions of the drivetrain to break off the larger pieces of wax then tune the derailleurs accordingly.

Post chain wax immersion and installation maintenance:

  – Approximately every 200 – 250 miles, apply wax replenisher to each chain busing/pin on the chain. This is performed at least 12 – 24 hours prior to the ride. F.E. Silca wax immersion chains use Silca’s Super Secret drip wax.

  – No solvents are necessary to clean and prep the chain for the drip wax. If the chain looks dirty, simply take a rag and wipe the chain down before applying a fresh coat of drip wax.

Benefits of a waxed chain:

– Primary benefit is the reduction of frictinal losses in the drivetrain

– Clean drivetrain, especially to the touch

– Quieter drivetrain

– End result is longer drivetrain component lifespan

Going the waxed chain route is not for everyone. We have plenty of clients who prefer to use either wet or dry/teflon based lubricants with regular wipe down and application. If you have any questions or would like to schedule service, please reach out to fw2@fitwerx.com.
