Trigger Point Technologies body maintenance tools are based on the premise that the majority of muscle based issues athletes who participate in repetitive use sports experience are due to dysfunctional or over-developed muscle adhesions.
In our experience, they are right on track. Once positioning related fit variables are addressed, the majority of muscle issues we see on the bike are due to a muscle restriction, a limited range of motion, and/or an imbalance. Trigger Point Tools directly address the first two of these three items like few other methods we have found and they indirectly address the third.
How does it work? Trigger Point Technologies tools take advantage of your body weight in combination with their unique shape and material to dig under soft tissue. This breaks-up and frees restricted or limited muscle and connective tissue and can help allow muscles to extend through their full range of motion and track properly again. Once free of restrictions, the muscle can stretch and function as they were designed and that can make a world of difference.
Does it work? An ITB tracking issue was limiting a staff member's riding and, in the case of his injury, just ten minutes of use for three nights with the Trigger Point Tools settled the ITB back into its groove and the issue was gone and has not returned. While this type of result is not going to happen with every type of issue, we were suitably impressed. We, and many of the athletes we work with, have also found the Trigger Point Tools to be great maintenance tools to supplement physical therapy.
The Total Body Kit includes all the key tools in the TPT toolbox. A great introduction for the whole body to the many benefits of active muscle and tissue maintenance. Kit includes all you need to get started with Trigger Point: the TP Massage Ball, TP Footballer, TP Baller Block, TP Quadballer, basic introductory DVD and a copy of the "Ultimate 6" instruction book. The "Ultimate 6" book is designed specifically to instruct on how to address common running injuries with the kit, but the book serves cyclists quite well too.
